About the Client

A Logistics Company with a workforce of over 10,000 employees caters to the end-to-end logistics needs of customers from the point of origin to destination. The company provides comprehensive service integration to multinational clients from transportation to warehousing to freight forwarding and supply chain.

Problem

There were two issues: 1) efficiency, and 2) precision.

The company was using traditional pen and paper tests in its recruitment and selection processes, which greatly affected efficiency. The assessments were administered manually within the office and required a live proctor to facilitate and monitor the administration process. This process was both time consuming and labor intensive.

Making things worse, the old process did not help the recruitment staff identify which positions a candidate was best suited for. Therefore, staff had to spend additional time evaluating which position was optimum for each candidate.

The paper-based testing and manual evaluation process required approximately 4 days to for each applicant. At the same time, however, increasing demand resulted in significant growth in the number of projects, and hence, demand for new staff. The company estimated it needed to process at least 125 applicants a week.

Solution

HR Avatar, in collaboration with ASEA Metrics, developed a customized bucketing solution that allows the client to match the capabilities of the candidate/s with the requirements of various jobs within the organization using only a single assessment tool. Aside from developing the customized solution, a benchmarking study was conducted.

The customized bucketing solution was incorporated in the recruitment process, along with special online remote proctoring. By utilizing the remote proctoring, recruiters were able to administer the test remotely. They could then invite only the candidates who passed the initial screening to attend an in-person interview. What's more, the bucketing capability helped them decide which openings to target for each applicant.

Result

The integration of the HR Avatar customized bucketing solution resulted in 75% increase in efficiency in hiring (from 4 days to 1 day processing).

By automating the assessment process, using remote proctoring to test remotely, and incorporating the bucketing solution, significant improvements in efficiency were realized. In-house processing for a single applicant was reduced from 4 days to only 1. Applicant success rates also increased, since applicants were more precisely channeled to the most appropriate opening. Additionally, a benchmarking study found that several assessment dimensions were strongly correlated with job performance.
