HR Avatar Launches Multitasking Assessment

multitasking assessmentDo your employees need to multitask? HR Avatar has released a new Multitasking Assessment designed to measure an individual’s capacity to manage divided attention effectively. The assessment evaluates how well a person can actively listen and comprehend spoken information, such as a narrative or story, while simultaneously performing simple, real-time tasks. This mirrors real-world situations where employees must process multiple streams of information and maintain performance accuracy under pressure.

The assessment blends two task types. Candidates are instructed to either count or categorize items while listening to an audio story. Each section begins with clear instructions, after which the audio plays and the on-screen tasks begin. Once the audio ends, the assessment advances immediately to a short set of multiple-choice questions related to the audio content. Even if a candidate doesn’t complete all active tasks, the system still scores what was completed. The follow-up questions measure comprehension and retention of the spoken material.

What It Measures

This tool evaluates a person’s ability to split attention between competing demands. It measures three things:

Task execution: the number of task items completed while the audio plays.

Task accuracy: how many of those items were completed correctly.

Listening and retention: the number of audio-based questions answered correctly.

The final score reflects a blend of task performance and listening accuracy. The result provides a compact view of how the individual handles multitasking and information processing when listening and working at the same time.

Why It Matters

Many work environments have multiple things going on at once. Someone may need to take notes while listening, update systems while speaking with a client, or capture details while shifting between channels. This assessment helps employers see who can absorb information, act quickly, and maintain accuracy under those conditions.

Who It’s For

This type of multitasking evaluation is particularly useful for roles that require sustained attention, information processing, and focus under distraction. Industries and positions that can benefit include:

  • Customer Service Call Centers
  • Air Traffic Control, Transportation, and Logistics
  • Administrative Executive Support
  • Healthcare, Emergency Services, and Dispatch
  • Financial Services Trading
  • Security, Military, and Law Enforcement
  • Broadcast and Media Operations
  • Education and Training Roles

These environments demand high situational awareness, divided attention, and cognitive flexibility, qualities this assessment is designed to measure.

The new Multitasking Assessment is available now in the HR Avatar catalog and can be added to any hiring workflow.
