About the test

The Plumbing (Commercial) test is an employment assessment designed to measure the knowledge and skills necessary for entry-level to mid-level commercial plumbers to perform installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems in commercial properties. The test evaluates candidates across key areas including Pipe Materials, Fittings, and Joining Methods; Reading and Interpreting Blueprints and Plumbing Plans; Drainage, Waste, and Vent (DWV) Systems; Commercial Plumbing Codes and Regulations; Identifying and Repairing Leaks, Blockages, and System Failures; and Valves, Water Heaters, and Mechanical Equipment. It measures skill-based competencies through a variety of question formats, including Multiple Choice, Multiple Correct Answer, and Essay Composition questions. To ensure assessment integrity and enhance predictive performance, the test draws questions from a large pool to reduce the risk of cheating, incorporates time limits on select questions, and uses artificial intelligence to assist in scoring certain responses.

Following completion, the test produces a Candidate Selection Report that includes an overall score and detailed scores for each attribute.

The Candidate Selection Report also provides expert interview questions that help you probe critical or low-scoring areas, along with a guide for noting your evaluation of the candidate's responses. Consistent use of an interview guide is an important part of gaining better candidate insights and making better hiring decisions.

Note that while the Plumbing (Commercial) assessment is a useful and efficient instrument for confirming a base level of skill or knowledge about this important topic, it is not intended to pinpoint the exact level of candidate or skill.
