About the test

The HVAC (Commercial) test is designed to measure the knowledge and skills necessary for entry-level to mid-level commercial HVAC technicians to perform installation, maintenance, and repair on systems found in commercial properties. The test evaluates key skill areas including Refrigerant Handling and EPA Regulations, Electrical Systems and Controls, Preventive Maintenance Procedures, Airflow and Air Distribution, Heating Systems, and Refrigeration Cycle and Cooling Systems. Candidates are assessed through a variety of question formats, including Multiple Choice, Multiple Correct Answer, and Essay Composition questions, with one or more questions scored using artificial intelligence. Questions are drawn from a large pool to minimize the risk of cheating, and one or more questions are subject to time limits to further deter cheating and enhance the predictive accuracy of the assessment.

Following completion, the test produces a Candidate Selection Report that includes an overall score and detailed scores for each attribute.

The Candidate Selection Report also provides expert interview questions that help you probe critical or low-scoring areas, along with a guide for noting your evaluation of the candidate's responses. Consistent use of an interview guide is an important part of gaining better candidate insights and making better hiring decisions.
