About the test

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Literacy for Business Users assessment is designed to measure the conceptual and practical knowledge and skills that entry-level to mid-level office workers need to effectively and responsibly use AI-enabled tools in the workplace. The test evaluates six key areas: Understanding How AI Tools Work, Prompting and Refining AI Outputs, Recognizing AI Limitations and Verifying Outputs, Data Privacy and Responsible AI Use, Integrating AI into Everyday Work Tasks, and Ownership, Attribution, and Ethical Use of AI-Generated Content. These areas encompass topics such as how large language models generate responses, writing and iterating on prompts, identifying hallucinations and bias, applying data privacy and compliance policies, and integrating AI into workflows for tasks like drafting, summarizing, and reporting. The assessment also evaluates candidates' ability to review and take ownership of AI-assisted work, recognize intellectual property considerations, and determine when AI use adds value versus introduces risk.

The test uses a combination of Multiple Choice, Multiple Correct Answer, and Essay Composition questions, with AI-assisted scoring applied to one or more questions to ensure accurate evaluation of open-ended responses. Questions are drawn from a large pool to minimize the risk of cheating, and one or more questions include time limits to further deter dishonesty and enhance predictive performance. This skills-based assessment provides employers with a well-rounded measure of a candidate's or employee's readiness to use AI tools responsibly, efficiently, and ethically in a modern business environment.

The specific attributes measured include:

Knowledge and Skills
  • Data Privacy and Responsible AI Use
  • Integrating AI into Everyday Work Tasks
  • Ownership, Attribution, and Ethical Use of AI-Generated Content
  • Prompting and Refining AI Outputs
  • Recognizing AI Limitations and Verifying Outputs
  • Understanding How AI Tools Work

Following completion, the test produces a Candidate Selection Report that includes an overall score and detailed scores for each attribute.

The Candidate Selection Report also provides expert interview questions that help you probe critical or low-scoring areas, along with a guide for noting your evaluation of the candidate's responses. Consistent use of an interview guide is an important part of gaining better candidate insights and making better hiring decisions.

Note that while the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Literacy for Business Users assessment is a useful and efficient instrument for confirming a base level of skill or knowledge about this important topic, it is not intended to pinpoint the exact level of candidate or skill. We recommend that skills tests, like this one, be used in parallel with other measurements, such as cognitive ability, job fit, and behavioral history. Each different type of test provides a valuable piece of information you can use when evaluating potential job performance.
