About the test
The Google Docs - Usage and Concepts assessment is designed to evaluate the knowledge and skills of job candidates and employees in working with documents using Google Docs and Google Drive. The test covers a broad range of focus areas, including Creating and Editing Documents, Formatting Text and Documents, Sharing and Collaboration, Inserting and Structuring Content, Organizing Files in Google Drive, and Version History and Exporting Documents. Specifically, it evaluates the ability to create, edit, and format documents, insert tables, images, and links, use headers and footers, track changes, and manage version history. It also assesses knowledge of sharing documents with appropriate permission levels, collaborating in real time, organizing files and folders in Google Drive, and exporting documents to other formats. The assessment uses Multiple Choice and Multiple Correct Answer questions selected from a large question pool to help prevent cheating, and one or more questions are timed to further deter cheating and improve predictive performance.
The specific attributes measured include:
Knowledge and Skills
- Creating and Editing Documents
- Formatting Text and Documents
- Inserting and Structuring Content
- Organizing Files in Google Drive
- Sharing and Collaboration
- Version History and Exporting Documents

Following completion, the test produces a Candidate Selection Report that includes an overall score and detailed scores for each attribute.
The Candidate Selection Report also provides expert interview questions that help you probe critical or low-scoring areas, along with a guide for noting your evaluation of the candidate's responses. Consistent use of an interview guide is an important part of gaining better candidate insights and making better hiring decisions.
Note that while the Google Docs - Usage and Concepts assessment is a useful and efficient instrument for confirming a base level of skill or knowledge about this important topic, it is not intended to pinpoint the exact level of candidate or skill. We recommend that skills tests, like this one, be used in parallel with other measurements, such as cognitive ability, job fit, and behavioral history. Each different type of test provides a valuable piece of information you can use when evaluating potential job performance.
