As artificial intelligence (AI) begins to enter the mainstream, HR Avatar is committed to bringing the business benefits of AI to customers in a rational and responsible manner. In keeping with this commitment, the company has incorporated artificial-intelligence-derived personality feature extraction into its video interview product offering.

The HR Avatar system now uses machine learning based on semantic analysis to identify up to 40 different personality traits from statements made by candidates when recording audio or video responses as part of a pre-hire assessment.

While tools for personality trait extraction have been around for years, HR Avatar’s Science Team believed that existing solutions, which used strictly lexical analysis, were not ‘causal’ or intuitive enough to produce reliable, actionable results for hiring decisions. However, the development of semantic approaches to text analysis, combined with large public domain datasets for several well-known and established personality inventories changed that, and enabled a useful tool that can be put to use by employers immediately.

Because it is based on a large database of open source personality questions and response data, the system is both a rational and responsible means of evaluating key personality traits.
